Chief LaPlante has over 26 years of law enforcement experience in Raynham, including 11 years in a supervisory role. Chief LaPlante is a U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran.
Throughout his career, he has gained extensive experience in leadership, managing and directing diverse teams, and municipal government and finance.
Chief LaPlante began his law enforcement career with the Town of Raynham in 1996 as a patrol officer before serving as a detective beginning in 2001. While detective, he conducted numerous criminal and civil investigations. In 2012 Chief LaPlante was appointed sergeant.
Since 2015, Chief LaPlante has served the department as lieutenant. While serving in this role, he initiated and implemented the department’s state accreditation program, and designed a police cadet program for the department.
As lieutenant, he also served as the department’s public information officer, the National Incident-Based Reporting System representative, the Criminal Justice Information Services representative, and the firearms licensing officer.
Chief LaPlante has received several awards throughout his career, including the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award, Helping Leaders Network Significant Leader Leaders Award, and The National Society of Leadership and Success Award.
Chief LaPlante has previously served as a member of the Fire Chief Advisory Committee, the Town of Raynham Capital Planning Committee, and the Raynham Public Safety Building Committee. He is additionally a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the American Society for Public Administration.
Chief LaPlante holds a Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) from Capella University, a master’s degree in public administration leadership and crisis management from Norwich University, a master’s degree in criminal justice administration from Western New England College and a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement from Western New England College.
