Raynham Police Investigating Shell Casing Found at Raynham Middle School
RAYNHAM — Chief James Donovan reports that the Raynham Police Department is investigating after an empty shell casing was found in the gymnasium of Raynham Middle School on Wednesday.
At this time there is no reason to believe there is any active threat or danger to the school.
At approximately 2 p.m., Raynham Police responded to the middle school after receiving a report that a single shell casing had been found by a teacher near the bleachers in the gym.
There was no live round in the shell casing.
School officials immediately notified the Raynham Police Department and an investigation was launched. No other suspicious items were found in a search of the gym.
Students were dismissed at the regular time and in normal fashion. Out of an abundance of caution all after-school activities were cancelled.
The school has been secured and officers will be searching the rest of the school with multiple K9s tonight as the investigation continues.
“Whenever situations like this arise we treat them with the utmost seriousness,” Chief Donovan said. “The school will be searched thoroughly and we ask that anyone with information about this incident call the Raynham Police at 508-824-2716 or contact school officials.”
