Chief James Donovan reports that a Raynham Police traffic stop conducted earlier today led to the arrest of the driver for illegal possession of a firearm.
ROBERT PERRY, AGE 21, OF MIDDLEBOROUGH was charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm Without a License
- Illegal Possession of Ammunition
- Receiving Stolen Property
- Operation of a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
- Operation of an Unregistered Motor Vehicle
At approximately 10:30 a.m., a Raynham Police officer was on a routine patrol in the area of Route 44 westbound when he came upon a white Toyota Corolla sedan.
A query of the Registry of Motor Vehicles database showed that the vehicle’s registration was expired. The officer pulled the vehicle over and spoke to the driver, later identified as PERRY. Inside the car was two female passengers, one of whom the car belonged to, who PERRY was allegedly driving home.
While speaking to PERRY, officers discovered he was operating the car despite his license being revoked and that he allegedly provided a false name initially when questioned by law enforcement.
An on-scene investigation and search of the vehicle uncovered a .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol that was reported stolen from California. Police also found four rounds of ammunition. During their investigation, officers determined that the bag the gun was located in belonged to PERRY.
PERRY does not have a license to carry or FID card. He was arrested at the scene.
PERRY was arraigned at Taunton District Court today. He is scheduled to have a dangerousness hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
