Raynham Police Department Charges Man who Led Officers on Pursuit

Somerset Police Arrested Suspect at Somerset Motel

RAYNHAM — Raynham Police Chief James Donovan and Somerset Police Chief George McNeil report that a man has been arrested after leading a Raynham officer on a chase earlier this week.

KIE HENDRIX, AGE 32, OF BROCKTON was charged with:

  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Failure to Stop/Yield
  • Operation of a Motor Vehicle with a Revoked License
  • Speeding
  • Marked Lanes Violation

HENDRIX additionally had four outstanding warrants for alleged drug crimes and motor vehicle violations. He will be arraigned in Taunton District Court at a later date on his Raynham charges.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., on Tuesday, June 11, a Raynham Police officer was on routine patrol on New State Highway (Route 44) when he observed a man driving a black 2009 Mercedes C300 sedan.

While stopped at a red light, at the intersection of Orchard Street and Route 44, the officer looked over toward the driver of the Mercedes, later identified as HENDRIX. HENDRIX turned his head and body in an abrupt manner, in an attempt to hide his face, and then quickly turned onto Orchard Street.

The officer continued on his patrol and noticed HENDRIX drive by twice in a short period of time. The officer then observed HENDRIX park at a gas station at the intersection of South Street West and Route 44. HENDRIX parked at the pumps but did not get out to get gas. Because HENDRIX was acting suspiciously, the officer pulled into the gas station parking lot. When he did so, HENDRIX allegedly fled from the parking lot onto Route 44 at a high rate of speed.

HENDRIX led the officer on a pursuit down Route 44, reaching speeds of over 60 miles per hour. HENDRIX drove through multiple red lights and was driving aggressively, at one point forcing another driver to veer to the side of the road.

Due to HENDRIX’S speed and reckless driving, and because the officer had the registration information on the vehicle, the pursuit was terminated.

Through a subsequent investigation, Raynham Police learned from Somerset Police that HENDRIX was known to frequent the Orbitz Inn, 537 Riverside Ave., in Somerset.

At approximately 8 a.m., on Wednesday, June 12, Somerset Police officers went to the Orbitz Inn and located the black Mercedes in the parking lot. HENDRIX was found in the lobby of the hotel and was placed under arrest for his outstanding warrants.

Through further investigation, it was confirmed by Raynham Police that HENDRIX was the man who led officers on the pursuit.

A criminal complaint was filed Friday morning in Taunton District Court for his charges out of Raynham.

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

Raynham Police to Charge to Woman Who Led Officers on Chase

Woman Sideswiped Two Raynham Police Cruisers on Route 24

RAYNHAM — Chief James Donovan reports that the Raynham Police Department will charge a woman with multiple offenses after she allegedly led officers on a chase through town and onto Route 24 Monday night.

SAMANTHA COSTA, AGE 32, OF MARSHFIELD will be charged with:

  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign
  • Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon (Motor Vehicle) (Two Counts)
  • Marked Lanes Violation

At approximately 8:45 p.m., Monday, Jan. 8, Raynham Police received a notification from the Bridgewater Police Department to be on the lookout for a woman, later identified as COSTA, driving a white pickup truck. COSTA was wanted for multiple offenses in Marshfield stemming from an incident earlier in the day.

A short time later, a Raynham Police officer observed COSTA’S vehicle on Pleasant Street as she passed him driving approximately 60 m.p.h.

The officer initiated a pursuit and followed COSTA as she swerved around a vehicle and turned onto Orchard Street. She continued down Orchard Street and turned onto Route 44 and took the nearby on-ramp onto Route 24 South.

With more officers now involved in the pursuit, COSTA sideswiped two Raynham Police cruisers on Route 24. The officers were uninjured, but the cruisers sustained scrapes and each had side mirrors broken off.

COSTA got off the highway onto Route 140. She drove through multiple communities and officers from those towns deployed tire deflation devices in attempt to get her to stop.

The pursuit was terminated when she drove through a red light in Fairhaven.

Later Monday night, she was located by Mattapoisett Police and subsequently placed her under arrest without further incident.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.

*Joint Release* Raynham Police Arrest Man Following Pursuit that Began in Easton

RAYNHAM — Raynham Police Chief James Donovan and Easton Police Chief Gary Sullivan report that the Raynham Police Department arrested a man following a pursuit that began when a driver fled after an Easton Police officer attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop.

ALEXANDER CRUZ,  AGE 24, OF TAUNTON was arrested and charged with:

  • Failure to Stop for a Police Officer (two counts)
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle (two counts)
  • Operation of a Motor Vehicle With a Revoked License (two counts)
  • Assault and Battery With a Dangerous Weapon (four counts)
  • Marked Lanes Violation (two counts)
  • Speeding (two counts)
  • Red Light Violation
  • Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Involving Property Damage (two counts)
  • Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Involving Personal Injury (four counts)
  • Failure to Inspect a Motor Vehicle (two counts)

CRUZ also has three arrest warrants related to three separate incidents out of Taunton District Court.

At approximately 11:12 a.m., Easton Police attempted to stop a gray Nissan Maxima with an expired inspection sticker as it was traveling southbound near 379 Turnpike St. (Route 138). When the Easton officer exited his vehicle to speak with the driver, who was later identified as CRUZ, he drove away at a high rate of speed. The officer returned to his vehicle and again attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop, but a pursuit ensued.

The Easton officer estimated that CRUZ reached speeds of 80 mph and drove into the breakdown lane to pass other vehicles. At that time, Easton Police abandoned the pursuit out of concern for the safety of others as well as their own, and notified Raynham Police that CRUZ was driving in the direction of their community.

Upon locating the vehicle, Raynham Police deployed a pair of tire deflation devices into the roadway. CRUZ drove over one of the devices and avoided the second, and a short time later struck at least two vehicles near the intersection of Route 138 and Britton Street.

Three occupants in one of the vehicles suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. 

A female passenger in CRUZ’s vehicle suffered serious injuries and was subsequently taken by medical helicopter to a Boston hospital.

CRUZ was taken into custody following the crash, and was then transported to an area hospital by ambulance with injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening and has since been released from the hospital.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in Taunton District Court.
