RAYNHAM — The Raynham Police Department is investigating an overnight disturbance at a house party during which a man allegedly fired a handgun into the air before fleeing the scene.
At approximately 1:02 a.m. on Sunday, July 5, Raynham Police received two 911 calls reporting a noise complaint at a home on Britton Circle. Responding officers spoke with the homeowner, who stated the party would be shut down.
At approximately 1:33 a.m., police received another 911 call reporting a disturbance and fight at the same location. While officers were responding, dispatchers were advised that shots had been fired.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a man, who was an uninvited guest at the party and unknown to the homeowner, had allegedly retrieved a firearm from his vehicle, fired one round into the air, and fled the area.
No one was injured.
During the investigation, officers recovered a loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun that the suspect had allegedly thrown into the wrong vehicle while fleeing. The firearm was legally registered to the suspect, who holds a valid License to Carry.
Raynham Police, including K-9 Unit Sgt. Frank Pacheco and K-9 Bleky, the Taunton Police Department, the Taunton Police Drone Unit and the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing conducted an extensive search of the area for approximately two hours but were initially unable to locate the suspect.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., the Taunton Police Department received a call from a resident in the area of Field Street and Woodview Drive reporting that a man was knocking on their door asking for help. Responding Taunton officers identified the man as the suspect sought by Raynham Police.
The suspect, a 26-YEAR-OLD MAN, of MATTAPAN, will be summonsed to court on charges of:
- Discharging a Firearm Within 500 Feet of a Building
- Improper Storage of a Firearm (Two Counts)
Because the suspect is being summonsed and the court has not yet issued a criminal complaint, the individual’s identity cannot be released at this time.
The incident remains under investigation by Raynham Police patrol officers and detectives. Additional charges may be filed at the conclusion of the investigation.
“Thankfully, no one was injured despite a firearm being discharged during a large gathering,” said Chief David LaPlante. “I would like to thank our officers, detectives and law enforcement partners for their coordinated response and assistance in locating the suspect.”
These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
