Raynham Police Respond to Crash on Route 138 Involving Tractor Trailer

Route 138 Partially Closed for Fuel Leak

RAYNHAM — Chief James Donovan reports that the Raynham Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer on Route 138 Tuesday morning.

Due to a fuel leak from the tractor trailer, the northbound side of Route 138 will be closed for several hours from Elm Street to the Raynham IcePlex, while the fuel is being cleaned up. Residents and commuters are asked to seek alternate routes and avoid the area.

At approximately 9:20 a.m., the Raynham Police and Fire Departments received multiple calls about a crash on Route 138, near the Raynham IcePlex, 1568 Broadway.

Upon arrival, officers located a black BMW 128 two-door coupe that had collided with the front driver’s side of a tractor trailer.

The driver of the BMW, a 28-year-old Taunton man, was taken by a Raynham Fire ambulance to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening. The driver of the tractor trailer was uninjured.

The initial investigation indicates that the driver of the BMW was driving erratically when he allegedly crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and struck front driver’s side of the tractor trailer. The cause of the crash remains under active investigation.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage. A hazardous material cleanup crew was called to the scene, along with a crew from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
